Foundational, relevant anatomy

Each section focuses on a different part of the body, discussing bones, joints, ranges of motion, muscles and possible reasons for muscular imbalance, restrictions and pain. Principles of injury prevention will be given in a concise and practical manner - meaning that you will be able to apply this knowledge immediately into your own yoga practice and teaching.

Course Content: each major part of the body is covered

Ankles and feet, knees, hips (2 modules), sacroiliac, spine (3 modules), wrists and hands, elbows, shoulder girdle, shoulders, neck and head. As well as: breath and bandhas, the skeletal system, general movement principles and an optional final exam.

Worksheets, Student Assessment Sheets and Quizzes

To help you integrate the information from the videos there are numerous downloads: colouring worksheets, assessment sheets for you to use when assessing your students (or yourself), review quizzes so you can test your knowledge and a final assessment you can complete (optional) to get a Certificate of Competency

Muscle Printouts

In each section you will be able to download a pdf describing the bones and muscles of that particular region of the body. The muscle library allows you to learn about individual muscles, their attachments, functions and nerve supply. If you really want to get into the details of the muscles this is a great resource.

Asana Printouts

As part of each module you will be able to download pdfs of the relevant Asanas for that part of the body. In total, over the duration of the course, you will have access to over 80 postures (a full Level 1 Teacher Training Asana Manual). Each page includes general instructions that Jean uses in her teaching, benefits of the posture, cautions, possible modifications and variations as well as postures that may be useful as preparation.

Practice Suggestions

Throughout the videos there are suggestions on ways you can approach your practice and teaching. There are also specific videos that offer possible short sequences you can use to prepare for a particular pose or group of postures, or show progressions from easier through to more advanced postures.

“Many anatomy courses can be overwhelming. Often they include information that is very interesting but difficult to actually apply to your practice and feel in your body.

From my perspective, if information can’t be used in your practice or teaching then it will be easily forgotten.
If you can understand the information by applying it and feeling it in your own body or observing it in someone else’s body then you will retain it.

I purposefully designed this course to teach you the anatomy concepts that will have the most impact on your practice and teaching.”

What people are saying...

“Your explanation of things were simple to understand and I loved that I could go over videos multiple times to help things sink in. The layout was easy for quick references and the short videos made it easy to watch. I really liked how you explained concepts and then demonstrated with a real person. I absolutely loved doing this course. Jean, you are so knowledgeable and willing to share and any questions you got back to me really promptly.”

Lyn J.

“Jean’s years of experience in her own practice and in teaching Yoga enables her to provide a course that offers practical steps to assist students to develop their experience of Yoga. Jean is highly regarded in the Yoga community for the depth of her anatomy knowledge, it is her ‘signature dish’.”

Sally W.

“Jean is amazingly knowledgeable and experienced in yoga anatomy and in tailoring the yoga practice for the individual. As a teacher trainer, she is patient and thorough, explaining the how’s and why’s of yoga in a clear and practical way.”

Melia W.

“I really liked being about to do this in my own time and at anytime day or night. I like that there was a lot of videos and listening to you talk through things differently than just reading like most non-contact. ”

KImberley

“Every yoga teacher should take this - either as a great refresher or as a compliment to their training.”

Deniece C.

“This course was hands down the most helpful thing I have encountered for teaching in terms of feeling confident in why you teach a certain pose and how you can present the pose in safe ways. I really found the videos of the poses (where the muscle group is extended/flexed/etc.) so valuable because it felt very much like an in-person training where I was watching the example as it was being explained, which is a really helpful way to learn. I also really appreciate how you highlight safe ways to do poses, like "most people would benefit from keeping the neck at neutral in upward dog, rather than extending the neck." I really wish this in-depth anatomy had been included in my 200 hr training, but glad I found it now! ”

Erin B.

“This course was very useful to me! I can already see myself applying this learning to my personal practice and in conversation with students, and I’m looking forward to incorporating it into my classes.”

Stephanie W.

“I would recommend this course to any yoga teacher. Knowing the anatomy and how to keep your students safe is absolutely essential to providing a transformative experience. This course provides you with a in-depth look into interconnected play of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones in yogic postures which allows you to understand the purpose of the pose and how to avoid injury. This knowledge has set me apart from the other teachers at the studio where I teacher. Students consistently give feedback on how much they appreciate the anatomy knowledge and safety in my classes, which all of it comes from THIS COURSE!! I think this should be a required CE... it is that invaluable. ”

Zach S.

“Highly recommend the course, to everyone who wants to deepen the understanding of the human body and what we are actually lengthen and strengthen during our yoga practice.”
